“Noise" September 18, 2009 In this exhibition Pennbrick is interested in presenting noise as an aesthetic in art making, as content and noise as a part of contemporary living. Much of our lives are affected by noises of every kind that infiltrate our consciousness through technology, media, and in particular the urban environment. Noise is not only an auditory sensation but visual and mental. It is a part of the modern environment that people view as an indication of progress and also most often an annoyance. The average person tries to resists it and avoid it, and in this century it has grown to include a type of informational noise that we filter through our minds constantly. In this exhibition Pennbrick presents a selection of artists whose work reflect this ever-expanding concept of noise, and in turn we hope to share an appreciation of noise in its best senses. artists:
